Financial Planning Built for Pharmacists

Pharmacists start their careers with a solid salary and a six-figure loan balance, and the right repayment path depends on where you work. We help you sort that out along with everything else.

How Attend Helps Pharmacists

Attend Wealth Inc. is an independent, fee-based registered investment adviser in Midtown Atlanta that works with pharmacists in hospital, retail, clinical, and industry roles. Advisory services are held to a fiduciary standard. There is no account minimum, and the first meeting is a complimentary 30-minute consult. We meet at 999 Peachtree St NE, Suite 418, or by video with pharmacists anywhere in the country. For every pharmacist we review six planning areas: cash flow, taxes, retirement, investments, insurance, and estate. In practice that means student loan strategy, including whether PSLF could apply to your employer, a budget that handles variable shift and overtime pay, and a clear reading of the benefits package in front of you.

Where Pharmacists Usually Start With Us

The first conversation with a pharmacist usually begins with loans, then moves to income and benefits.

Student loans and PSLF eligibility

Public Service Loan Forgiveness requires a qualifying employer, such as many nonprofit hospitals and government agencies, plus qualifying payments on eligible federal loans. We help you confirm whether your job counts, compare that path with refinancing, and track the paperwork.

Shift, overtime, and differential income

Pharmacy pay can swing with extra shifts, night differentials, and per diem work. We build the budget on the base you can count on, then give the variable income a job: loans, savings, or a specific goal.

Hospital versus retail benefits, and 403(b) versus 401(k)

A hospital may offer a 403(b), sometimes with a 457(b) alongside it, while a retail chain offers a 401(k) with its own match and vesting rules. We compare the plans, the match, and the insurance benefits so you use what you have.

How we work

A Plan That Fits a Pharmacist's Schedule

Most pharmacists we work with are young professionals a few years out of school, or families where one or both partners work shifts and the household budget has to absorb that. Some own an independent pharmacy and fit better with our business owner work. The approach is the same as for our physician clients: one advisor, all six areas, no product to push. Insurance and retirement planning usually get the most attention early. Our fees page shows what we charge before you meet us.

  • Your loan inventory, servicer, repayment plan, and whether PSLF could apply
  • A monthly number built on base pay, with a plan for overtime and differentials
  • Your 403(b), 401(k), or 457(b) options and the match you may be leaving behind
  • What our advisory fee would be for your situation

The Six Planning Areas for a Pharmacist

Here is how each planning area tends to show up in a pharmacist's household.

Planning areaWhat it usually means for pharmacists
Cash flowA budget built on base pay, a rule for overtime and differential income, and a reserve that covers a gap between jobs.
TaxesWithholding that keeps up with extra shifts, income-driven repayment interactions with filing status, and deductions for licensing and continuing education.
RetirementUsing a 403(b) or 401(k) match fully, adding a 457(b) where offered, and choosing Roth or pre-tax contributions based on your bracket.
InvestmentsStarting a diversified portfolio early, even while loans are being repaid, and keeping it simple enough to maintain on a shift schedule.
InsuranceChecking employer disability and life coverage, deciding whether individual coverage is needed, and reviewing liability coverage for your license.
EstateBeneficiary designations on retirement accounts, a will and powers of attorney, and guardianship decisions for young children, with an outside estate attorney.

These examples are general and describe common situations, not advice for any specific pharmacist or employer.

Common Questions from Pharmacists

Can you help me figure out whether I qualify for PSLF?

We can help you check the requirements: full-time work for a qualifying employer, such as a government agency or an eligible nonprofit hospital, qualifying federal loans, and 120 qualifying payments under an eligible repayment plan. We help you certify employment and keep records. The final determination comes from the loan servicer and the Department of Education.

Should I refinance my pharmacy school loans?

It depends on your employer and your plans. Refinancing federal loans to private ones gives up PSLF and income-driven repayment for good, which matters if you work or may work for a nonprofit hospital. If you are in retail or industry with no forgiveness path, a lower private rate may make sense. We compare both before you decide.

How do you plan around income that changes month to month?

We build the budget on your base salary and treat overtime, differentials, and per diem shifts as variable income with an assigned purpose. That might be extra loan payments, a house fund, or catching up on retirement contributions. The point is that a big month improves the plan instead of disappearing into spending.

Do I need a minimum to start?

No. Attend has no account minimum. A pharmacist in the first year of repayment with no investment account yet is a normal starting point for us. What matters is whether the six planning areas need attention, and for most new pharmacists, at least three of them do.

How are you paid?

Attend is a fee-based registered investment adviser. Advisory fees are explained in writing before you sign, and the fees page shows the structure. Advisors may earn commissions on insurance products, such as disability or life coverage, and any such commission is disclosed before anything is placed.

Are you a fiduciary, and can we meet outside business hours or by video?

Advisory services are held to a fiduciary standard, which means recommendations in an advisory relationship are made in your interest and documented so you can see why. We meet at our Midtown Atlanta office at 999 Peachtree St NE or by video, and we work with pharmacists nationwide. Ask about scheduling when you book, since shift schedules vary.
