Tony Colunga started in finance and scaled his career through highly reputable banks and investment firms like Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, and BBVA Global Wealth Advisors. Managing hundreds of millions in assets, he excelled at leveraging a comprehensive approach for his high-net-worth clients and finding custom strategies to address their problems. After 17 years of working the grind in corporate America, he’d built a portfolio with hundreds of affluent clients.
But something was missing. Tony began to realize that the traditional financial world only offered great service to those who already had great wealth. Physicians, people who dedicate their lives to helping others, were often treated as revenue targets instead of real people with unique needs. He wanted to change that. Rather than limiting access to clients with high account minimums, Tony envisioned a practice that would meet physicians where they are—whether they’re just finishing residency or years into practice—and treat every one of them with the same level of attention, care, and respect.
Tony started One Oak Wealth Management on January 1, 2020, with the intent of creating a practice that offered more personalized and inclusive service. That same year, he contracted COVID and nearly died in the ICU. His wife collaborated with her best friend, a fellow physician and active advisory board member of Attend, to guide his care. Thanks to an incredible care team, Tony survived this terrifying ordeal. Sadly, his brother also contracted COVID a short time later and passed away.
These life-changing experiences helped inspire Tony to use his unique talents to grow a physician-specific brand that would serve physicians, not exploit them. He loved the idea of naming it “Attend,” and was able to acquire the name from another company that was in the process of phasing out their operations.
Tony now considers Attend a “love letter” to his wife and physicians like her. His team strives to alleviate their financial stress so they can focus on medicine.
